I know what you’re thinking.  “Damn, this girl must be a sexually-liberated badass!”  Well, thanks!  But I wasn’t always this way.

I grew up in a female body in a Catholic household in Dallas, Texas.  My inherent erotic and emotional expressions were shamed from a young age.  I was told to be a good girl, to achieve, to be strong, and to save myself for marriage.  I was taught that pre-marital sex, masturbation, and sex for pleasure (rather than procreation) were mortal sins that would book me a one-way ticket to hell.  Pretty aggressive, right? 

And yet not even remotely uncommon!  These ideas are so pervasive in our culture.  Sexual shame is essentially baked into our childhoods, and it sticks with us well into adulthood. 

Unless we do the work to untangle ourselves from this web of lies.
